The Challenge
The "Data-as-a-Product" Gap
Moneo, a cashback and promotions platform, sat on a potential goldmine: high-volume data on in-store, brick-and-mortar transactions captured via user-uploaded receipts. Their vision was to launch a "Data-as-a-Service" product, selling unique consumer insights to global CPG brands. However, they faced a realization: raw data is not a product. They struggled to transform these disparate transaction logs into the "holy grail" metrics that brands crave—such as cross-channel loyalty and repurchase rates—leaving a massive new revenue stream untapped.
The Cause
Noisy Data and Nested Complexity
The barrier to monetization was the sheer messiness of the source data. Receipts came from dozens of different store chains with inconsistent catalog information, making standardization a nightmare. Furthermore, the computer vision software used to read receipts outputted data in complex, deep-nested JSON structures. Moneo’s existing operational database (Postgres) was not built to unravel this complexity for analytics, and they lacked the secure infrastructure to present this data to competing brands without privacy risks.
The Solution
A Secure, Cost-Efficient GCP Architecture
We engineered a robust, cloud-native data platform funded entirely through Google Partner Services Funds.
Cost-Effective Ingestion: We utilized GCP Datastream for serverless, near real-time Change Data Capture (CDC), replicating data into BigQuery where the nested JSON could be natively flattened and normalized.
Embedded Monetization: We deployed Looker Embedded, designing a semantic layer with strict Row-Level Security. This allowed Moneo to deliver a single, polished application where a brand like Coca-Cola could access their specific insights without ever seeing data belonging to a competitor like Pepsi.

Unlocking Revenue from Global Titans
The project successfully launched a pilot program for industry giants including Coca-Cola, Nestlé, P&G, and Grupo Bimbo. Moneo transformed from a simple cashback app into a strategic data partner, providing these brands with previously inaccessible insights into cross-retailer shopping behavior and customer retention.
Strategic Wins: Moneo secured a partnership with AT&T Mexico based on these capabilities.
